Made this after a mornings 55k ride followed by a short 15min transition run (a fantastic way to start the day ;) !!). I find this drink perfect for recovery (or just ANYtime - it is delicious!!) as it provides glucose to restock glycogen levels, and is high in essential fatty acids which support our heart and lung function, prevents and reduces inflammation, improved mental focus and concentration. According to research, LA and LNA essential fatty acids can substantially shorten the time required for fatigued muscles to recover after exercise by facilitating the conversion of lactic acid to water and carbon dioxide. Soooo... all very helpful for athletic, active people! ;=)
Ingredients, to make around 500ml:
-300ml fresh apple juice
-3 tablespoons hemp seeds
-2/3 tablespoons chia seeds
-1/4th tsp stevia leaf powder, or 1-3 medjool dates
-Optional: 1 RIPE (spotty) bananas - this will make it slightly thicker and creamier
How to Make:
Put all ingredients EXCEPT the chia seeds, and blend until smooth and silky!
In a mason jar, put in the chia seeds and then pour in the blend. Stir well so that the chia seeds are well distributed and place into the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving - the chia will have thickened the mixture, but not so much as to have turned it into a pudding! If you do want it as a pudding consistency, just add more chia seeds!
Enjoy!!
